Zhou Fan was born in Shanxi Province, China and graduated from the art department of Shanxi University.
Most of his paintings are based on dreams he had as a child, about many jellyfishes floating in the sky, some of which fell to the ground on parachutes and became mushrooms. These dreams had a strong impact on him.
“Somehow I feel that it is easier to focus on dreams than reality. In one particular painting, there is a boy crying because he keeps things within him, is easily sad, and he refuses to face reality.”
In 2007, Zhou Fan was selected as one of the top 25 emerging Chinese artists (out of over 1300 applicants) at the Chinese Art Prize and received the “special mention” prize, which had never been awarded before. The Chinese Art Prize launched Zhou Fan’s career, and allowed him to gain much more exposure.
Zhou has exhibited globally: during Art Beijing and Art Cologne, at Art Scene China, at Doland Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai, during the Toronto International Art Fair (TIAF), and in different shows in Dubai and Bahrain.
