“The Milk of Dreams” is the title of the Venice Biennale Arte 2022.

The title and the theme of the 59th International Art Exhibition have been announced by the President of La Biennale di Venezia, Roberto Cicutto, and the Curator Cecilia Alemani.

About the title, Cecilia Alemani borrowd it from a book by Leonora Carrington, a British-born Mexican artist, surrealist painter, and novelist.

As the curator explained: «Carrington’s stories describe a world set free, brimming with possibilities. But it is also the allegory of a century that imposed intolerable pressure on the individual, forcing Carrington into a life of exile».

During many conversations with artists, Cecilia Alemani collected a series of questions that inspired here for the themes of the Biennale 2022: «How is the definition of the human changing? What constitutes life, and what differentiates animals, plants, humans, and non-humans? What are our responsibilities towards the planet, other people, and the other organisms we live with? And what would life and the Earth look like without us?».

So, according to the curator words: «The exhibition focuses on three themes in particular: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; the connection between bodies and the Earth».

The Biennale Arte 2022 will be held from 23 April to 27 November 2022 (pre-opening on 20, 21, 22 April) in the Giardini, at the Arsenale, and at various sites around Venice, and we are already eager to discover it! To discover the Milk of Dreams!
