Sung Jin Kim paints a vision of magnified reality. Working meticulously in oil, Sung Jin uses the language of photography to paint with bold precision.
By enlarging his subjects beyond rational proportion the images become hyperreal in their overbearing volume and form.
Sung Jin uses the effects of photography as a launch pad from which he forges his glistening amplifications of reality. Reducing his representation of the human form to their lips, Sung Jin suggests a deeply sensuous intimacy in each anonymous subject.
Sung Jin Kim studied and lives in Seoul, Korea. He has exhibited widely across South East Asia since 2000 and won the Sosabul Art Festival, PyungTaekHo Museum, Grand Prize in 2004.
